We went to spectate the Portland marathon this weekend and the weather could not have been better. My uncle Jorge (George) and his daughter (my cousin) Rachael ran it for whatever reason, so we went to support them.
As it turned out, there was another friend running it, Bill. His lovely wife sent out a PDF of the race course which came in handy when we were looking for a good location to watch the runners from. We parked the Great White (our giant dodge truck) and while making our way to the course we spotted more friends, Alfredo and Kristen Moreno.
We all stood somewhere between mile 21 and 22 and cheered for runners while waiting for our relatives and friends to run by.
George came by first looking GREAT! I would never suspect that he had been running for the last 20 some miles.
Alfredo made this sign to encourage Bill.
Now he is running.
Andrew and Liam were ready on the high five.
This kangaroo pouch for Liam has been an invaluable tool.
We are pretty light on family photos so I had Kristen take this group shot of us. Andrew and i were accidentally wearing matching outfits (dang it! makes me worry about the future).
Let me just go on record saying that i think running for sport is ridiculous. I admire the people that do it, and every couple of years i go out and buy a pair of running shoes thinking that this time… this time… I am going to become a runner. I go out once and remember that i will not, in fact become a runner. It really needs to be more fun, turns out spectating is just the right speed for me.
OH! AND, I saw a dear friend Ryan C Mader in the race. I failed to snap a pic, but it sure was good to see him. I got a sweaty hug and he was off again.
