That’s right! We got out there and got after it this past weekend!!!!
Andrew and his brother are very close in age and have a close relationship. It’s a little tough that we live so far away, we are 5 hours in good weather from them, just far enough that a weekend trip is a little rough. A new issue has cropped up in the last couple of years, with growing families it can be hard to gather at one house.
The solution. Instead of some of us being uncomfortable at one of the houses, everyone uncomfortable in the dirt! just kidding 😉
AP found a likely looking spot to meet in the middle, 2.5 hours for both of us, in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The campground was a little less then we expected but the toilets were amazingly clean, the host was very nice and it was mellow for all the kids.
I like adventure, exploration and trying new things. Saturday I asked the camp host about a short hike and she directed us to a place called natural bridges.
It turned out to be pretty amazing. It was an easy walk along the edge of a collapsed lava tube with several ‘natural bridges’ from side to side.
It was a cool little hike that was a good length for the kids. The next place the camp host recommended was ‘Trout Lake’. It never occurred to me that ‘Trout Lake’ could be anything other then a lake, but it was not a lake, it was a town. I pictured finishing our dusty walk with a nice wading session in crystal clear Mt Adams snow melt lake. I was disappointed. We returned to camp.
The next day we went for the sure thing. Down to the Columbia, on the beach in Hood River!
We were rewarded with a GORGEOUS DAY!
Blythe and Conner took full advantage of the warm shallow water.
Liam did great and Andrew and i took turns keeping him in the shade.
I am pretty sure that Andrew had more fun then the kids did.
And kite boarding looks FUN!! The water was crowded with boarders and the sky was full of kites. It was a perfect way to spend the afternoon, in great weather, with family and spectating a really fun looking sport! i want to try it!
Everyone was whooped…
and slept the whole way home.
It was a wonderful weekend. Thanks to Daniel, Ashley, Blythe, Conner, Coen, Andrew and Liam, for showing me a great time.
